My bug eating housemate!

I've just heard my housemate calling out in disgust in the kitchen, I rushed through to see if he was ok and found him hunched over, gulping at a cup of tea, as if to wash his mouth out.

He then relayed how he had been eating the remaining cherries, from our picnic on the weekend.  Looking somewhat panicked, he pointed at a scrunched up tinfoil wrapper, placed on the work surface.  On closer inspection, the cherries were covered in ants.  He cried out:

"I don't know how many I've eaten, it reminds me of the time I found silver fish on my pizza!"

The Internet is Dead - Prince

Imgres

The artist, formally known as Prince has predicted the end of the internet and is quoted as saying:

"The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

I couldn't have put it better myself, certainly not without my Apple MacBook, Apple LED Cinema Display, Apple Wireless KB and Mouse and wireless internet shared using my Apple Time Capsule.

Refugee Council’s Asylum Election Pledge

The Refugee Council ran an excellent campaign to candidates to ensure prospective MP’s would remember that Asylum Seekers basic safety and human rights whilst drawing up policies.  Over 1,000 candidates did sign this pledge, which stated:

“There is no place for racism and xenophobia in modern British politics. Nor is democratic debate advanced by the denigration of the most vulnerable in our country, including children and asylum seekers who do not enjoy the right to participate in elections.

I promise to remember the importance of refugee protection, even in free and wide-ranging debates about immigration policy. I will never play fast and loose with the proud tradition of a nation that must always offer succour to those in genuine fear of persecution.”

You can find out if your candidate signed this pledge here:http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/campaigning/electionaction/total-pledges.htm

and you can find out if your elected MP signed it here:http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/campaigning/electionaction/pledged-mps.htm

My Conservative MP appeared, not to have signed this pledge, so I’ve written the following letter.  Feel free to use it for the basis of a letter to your MP, should they have ommited to sign this simple and essential pledge.  This website will help you find and email your MPhttp://www.writetothem.com/

Dear +++++

Congratulations on your election.

One of the charities that I like to support is The Refugee Council, they recently had a campaign to raise the rights of Asylum Seekers, who are of course some of our most desperate and weak World citizens.  They had an election pledge which stated:

There is no place for racism and xenophobia in modern British politics. Nor is democratic debate advanced by the denigration of the most vulnerable in our country, including children and asylum seekers who do not enjoy the right to participate in elections.

I promise to remember the importance of refugee protection, even in free and wide-ranging debates about immigration policy. I will never play fast and loose with the proud tradition of a nation that must always offer succour to those in genuine fear of persecution.

I notice that you haven’t signed this pledge, would you like to?  It seems like a reasonable thing to agree to.

Kind regards,
